[Korea Farmers' News] This year, exports of seaweed from our country have surpassed 1 billion dollars for the first time. Additionally, as the United States, the largest market for Korean seaweed, has exempted tariffs on seasoned Korean seaweed, the growth potential of the seaweed industry has never been greater. However, the reality on the ground is different. Seaweed processing factories are facing difficulties in expanding production due to the inability to secure the freshwater needed for the cleaning process. With a significant number of factories relying on groundwater, the combination of drought, changes in water quality, and the risk of groundwater depletion is causing the production base to become unstable. The more exports increase, the more paradoxical it becomes that the production site is experiencing bottlenecks. This issue has recently been brought to the attention of the government.
