Tajikistan faces challenges in achieving self-sufficiency in corn production, spending $15-20 million annually on imports due to limited land, outdated agricultural methods, and insufficient support for producers. From September 2023 to August 2024, the country imported $13.2 million worth of corn from Kazakhstan, becoming its top buyer. With only 20.5 thousand hectares allocated for corn, Tajikistan struggles to meet domestic demand. To boost production, the country needs to improve yields through new hybrids and enhance economic incentives such as loans and subsidies for quality seeds and fertilizers.
