In Hungary, the two largest cultivated mushroom species are the oyster mushroom (approximately 28 thousand tons annually) and the shiitake mushroom (2.8 thousand tons). According to experts, the cultivated mushroom growing area has been between 160-170 thousand square meters in recent years. According to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH), Hungary's oyster mushroom foreign trade balance has been positive in recent years. The foreign trade activity of the oyster mushroom amounted to 7.17 billion forints in 2025.
