Several countries, including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the United States, Australia, and Russia, have imposed import bans on seafood and other food products from Japan due to concerns over radioactive contamination from the Fukushima nuclear plant. China's Foreign Ministry criticized Japan's actions as selfish and irresponsible, and China alone imported over $500 million worth of seafood from Japan last year. Other countries, such as Singapore, have found radioactive contamination in samples of vegetables imported from Japan and have extended their bans to include additional Japanese prefectures.
