[Korean Farmers' and Fishermen's News Reporter Young-jin Choi] As the ex-factory price of eel, a representative high-end fish species, has dropped to an all-time low, the anguish of aquaculture fishermen is deepening. This is due to the particularly large increase in the catch and stocking volume of fry, the real eel, this year. There is an argument that, similar to Japan and Taiwan, the introduction of a "stocking volume limit (quota system)" is necessary to improve the structure. According to the Fisheries Information Service Portal and the Fisheries Observation Center, as of December 1, the ex-factory price of eel was 18,976 won per kg. Prior to that, on November 28, it was 21,000 won, and on November 26, it was 18,044 won, falling below 20,000 won. The average price for November and December last year was around 35,000 won.
