In 2023, Russia saw a 10.5% increase in edible salt production, reaching over 848 thousand tons. Despite this, the share of imported salt in the Russian market rose by 2.5 percentage points to 33.6% due to logistical issues. Delivery times from Russian Railways have tripled for both empty and loaded cars, slowing down the salt supply to customers. This has given an advantage to foreign suppliers who do not face these shipment issues, resulting in a decrease in domestic shipments by up to 50% during certain periods.
