The EU vegetable market is subject to clear supply constraints. According to AMI (according to S&P Global), vegetable production in the EU in 2022 decreased by 8%. Declines were recorded for all major producers, with the largest in Spain (-15% y/y) , reported the publication Agro Nawigator of Bank PKO BP. The greatest impact on the decline in EU vegetable production had smaller harvests of onions and carrots, which resulted from drought and reduced crop area last year. The largest carrot producers, i.e. Germany and France, recorded a decrease in harvest by 19% y/y and 21% y/y, respectively. Production in Italy decreased by 30% y/y. On the other hand, the EU onion harvest in 2022, according to S&P Global, could have decreased by 13% y/y. The production of tomatoes also decreased - according to the EC by 12% y/y, mainly as a result of decreases in the two largest producers - Italy and Spain, by 14% and 10% y/y, respectively.
