April 9, 2026 The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, Luis Planas, held a "positive and constructive" meeting today in Isla Cristina (Huelva) with representatives of the fishing sector of the Gulf of Cádiz, in which they analyzed issues regarding the situation of the various fisheries in those waters and the impact on activity from the storms that occurred between the months of January and February and the war in the Middle East. Planas informed that the Ministry has already completed the first 300 files for the payment of the aids enabled by the Government for shipowners from Huelva, Cádiz, and Málaga as compensation for the loss of income on the days they could not go out to fish due to the storms for 1.5 million euros. In total, these aids will benefit 496 shipowners from the three provinces who will receive a total of 2.7 million euros.
