Malawi's soya industry has made its way into the Chinese market with a successful export of a 240 metric ton trial consignment by local company, Paramount Holdings Limited. The consignment was approved by Chinese authorities, marking a significant achievement in boosting Malawi's agricultural exports. This success is a result of collaborative efforts by various stakeholders, including government agencies, private enterprises, and Chinese representatives. Paramount Holdings is planning to export 20,000 metric tons of soybeans, following the positive trial, as the Chinese market requires 100,000 metric tons. The exports are subject to waivers that will be granted by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Agriculture. The government has signed protocols for the export of various commodities, including soybeans, macadamia nuts, dry chillies, and negotiations are underway for tobacco, tea, and ornamental fish, aiming to diversify the country's export base, currently dominated by tobacco.
