Vietnam's rice exports have seen significant growth in both volume and value, with August sales reaching 921,000 tons worth $546 million, a 40% increase in volume and 51% increase in value compared to July. The Philippines remains the largest customer, accounting for 38.9% of total export turnover, followed by China. Indonesia has also emerged as a major buyer, importing 718,266 tons of rice, a 1,505% increase in value compared to the same period last year. The surge in demand is due to supply shortages from other countries like India, as well as adverse weather conditions affecting rice production globally. However, concerns arise over potential supply shortages in Vietnam and disruptions caused by brokers in the market. In addition, the export and domestic prices of rice have recently decreased.
