The Chairman of the Union of Chambers of Agriculture of Turkey, Şemsi Bayraktar, has expressed concern over the rising costs and falling prices in the meat and dairy sector, leading to significant financial difficulties for producers. He highlighted the case of milk, where the production cost has quadrupled, forcing producers to make tough decisions such as reducing animal feed and selling breeding stock for slaughter. This has resulted in a decrease in milk production and an estimated need of 41.8 billion liras to replace one million animals already slaughtered. Bayraktar is advocating for the continuation of the current practice of leaving the price of milk to industrialists and producer organizations in an effort to prevent production from ceasing completely.
