Between 2019 and 2024, the total consumption of meat in Mexico increased by 18.9%, rising from just over 9 million tons to 10.7 million tons; however, production did not advance at the same rate. In the last six years, the country increased its import of animal protein by 32.7%, which has put pressure on logistics, customs, and the cold chain. The data was presented by Ernesto Salazar, Manager of Economic Studies and Trade of the Mexican Meat Council (COMECARNE) during the Interactive Customs Seminar, meat sector 2025, at the conference "Introduction to the Meat Industry." At this forum, which took place on October 28, it was stated that while imports grew by over 30% in six years, exports show a downward trend, reflecting an internal market that absorbs more volume and less favorable conditions in some international destinations.
