This means Mexico can now export avocados to 52 countries, including the US, Canada, and Europe. The reopening comes after Mexico successfully defended its avocado export practices at the WTO, arguing that they do not pose a plant health risk. Mexican avocado growers will now need to meet Costa Rica's import requirements, including the removal of a previous ban on avocados from countries with the avocado sunblotch viroid disease.
