Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has accused millers of frustrating efforts to lower maize flour prices by selling duty-free import permits to unauthorized traders and delaying maize shipping. Millers have responded by accusing the government of imposing an unrealistic maize landing price, arguing that the current landing price is higher than the one required to break even. The CS has given millers a deadline to either commit to importing duty-free maize or return the licenses, while also planning to discuss with financial institutions to assist importers.
