More European interest in Dutch onions

Countries such as Great Britain, Belgium and Germany have so far purchased clearly more onions from the Netherlands than in previous years. Great Britain has traditionally been an important customer. Up to and including week 3, the export counter stands at 86,600 tonnes, which is 6,000 tonnes more than last year. The increase in onion export to Belgium is striking. The Belgians have so far bought more than 40,000 tons of onions from the Netherlands. That is almost double from last year. There is also significantly more demand for onions from the 2022 harvest from Germany and, to a lesser extent, Portugal and Spain. In addition to Europe, West Africa also remains in the market for Dutch onions. The focus of this overseas export is now more on countries such as Guinea, Mauritania and Ivory Coast. Senegal bought 400 tons of onions in week 3. This brings the total export volume to this country to almost 160,000 tons and that seems to be about the quota for this export season. Price ...
