Uzbekistan plans to start transporting 2,500 tons of fresh and dried fruits to Pakistan via Afghanistan by the end of the year. The first shipment will be melons from the Syrdarya region and will be transported by the Chemical Business transport company. The new route will provide local goods with the shortest route to seaports and will be more financially rewarding for truck drivers. The quality of road infrastructure and services in Pakistan have been praised, and the issuance of electronic visas for truckers has been smooth. The Trans-Afghan Railway project, which has been put back on the agenda after being paused, is also under preparation for field work since March.
