Morocco's avocado production has reached 70 thousand tons, all of which is meant for export, consuming an impressive 70 billion liters of water annually. This is more than three times the amount of water received by the Ziz Khir Ghris basin, along with the Todgha, Kaddousa, Tamqit, and Hassan Ad-Dakhil dams, and the record load of the Ghris River combined. Former Justice and Development Party MP, Ahmed Sedki, compared this water usage to the ablution water used by Moroccans in a year, estimating that the total water used for ablution is less than a third of the water consumed by avocado production.
