Muratpaşa Municipality in ANTALYA, Turkey, initiated agricultural production in April of the previous year as part of efforts to address potential food shortages due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The project, spearheaded by Mayor Ümit Uysal, has seen the cultivation of corn, wheat, ginger, and sesame, with a total yield of 22,770 kilograms last year. The produce was shared with the local community. The municipality also launched a balcony gardening project to involve residents in production and distributed herb- and vegetable-filled pots to 5,000 houses. The initiative aims to emphasize the importance of urban production and continues to be a source of local agriculture within an urban setting.
