Nearly 100,000 tons of squid were landed at Argentine ports in the first quarter

In the first quarter of 2024, the Argentine squid fishing industry brought vitality to the ports, with catches exceeding the same period last year. According to official statistics from the Argentine National Fisheries Department, from January 1 to March 26, a total of 96,961 tons of squid were unloaded, while in the same period of 2023 only 66,254 tons were unloaded. Thus, in this first quarter, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Port of Madryn unloaded 26,815 tons of squid, while the Port of Deseado in Santa Cruz Province unloaded 33,196 tons of this species and the Port of Mar del Plata unloaded 35,046 tons. Detailed data by fleet type and unloading port show that from January to the end of March this year, the fishing fleet in the Port of Mar del Plata unloaded 23,732 tons, while in the Port of Madryn, the fishing fleet unloaded 22,788 tons, and these fleets delivered 31,693 tons to the Port of Deseado in Santa Cruz Province.
