New Eurobarometer on attitudes of European citizens in relation to animal welfare

The new Eurobarometer published by the EU on citizens' attitudes towards animal welfare, carried out last March and published in October 2023, shows that more than eight in ten respondents (84%, +2 percentage points since 2015) consider that, in general, the welfare of farm animals in their country should be better protected than now. National analysis shows that, across the 27 EU Member States, more than two-thirds of respondents believe that, overall, the welfare of farm animals in their country should be better protected than now, with the highest proportions in Cyprus (95%), Greece (93%) and France (92%), and the lowest in Romania (69%), Estonia (70%) and Latvia (72%). One of the points that has been introduced in this edition's questionnaire is the social acceptance of the sacrifice of day-old male chicks.
