According to the Korea Farmers and Fishermen's News, the population of people moving to rural areas in North Jeolla Province showed a clear decline last year. Unlike the nationwide increase in rural migration, North Jeolla experienced negative growth in both agricultural and rural resettlement, raising concerns about regional vitality.
Based on the '2024 Rural Migration Statistics' released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Statistics Korea, the number of households moving to agricultural areas in North Jeolla decreased by 16.1% to 903 households from 1,076 households in the previous year. Rural settlement households also dropped by 9.4% to 14,810 households. During the same period, nationwide agricultural migration households decreased by 20.0% to 8,243 households, while rural settlement households reached 318,658.
