The Korean pork industry is currently reviewing grading standards and management stability systems, with a focus on black pigs, following the example of Japan. Despite not directly visiting local institutions due to livestock disease concerns, the research delegation gathered information on the Japanese pork industry through meetings with relevant associations. Findings include a comprehensive grading system, ungraded pork transactions, and the effectiveness of Japan's Pork Management Stabilization Grant in supporting producers during challenges like increased feed prices or decreased pork prices. This grant, which provides subsidies when sales revenue falls below production costs, has aided in maintaining fair prices and promoting the sustainability of pig farming in Japan.
