As of November 3, 2022, Thuringia's cattle population was 277,876, marking a 0.8% increase from the previous May and a 1.7% decrease from the year before. The number of calves saw a 3.7% increase since May but a 2.1% decrease since November 2021. The herd of young cattle also decreased by 3.8% since May and 0.5% since November 2021. The number of cows continues to decline, with a 1.6% decrease in dairy cows and a 0.9% decrease in other cows since May. The herd in the category "Cattle more than 1 year old" increased by 3.8% within six months. Over half of the Thuringian cattle (56.4%) were kept in herds of 500 or more animals, and the dominant breed was the Holstein-Holstein black and white breed, accounting for 53.8% of the cattle.
