France has permitted food manufacturers to change the recipes of up to 70 products for a maximum of six months, due to supply issues with sunflower oil, especially affecting suppliers from Ukraine. The replacement oil will be rapeseed oil, and consumers will be made aware of the change through indications such as "DEROG" for crumble products and "rapeseed replaces sunflower" for nuggets. The government agency, Bercy, anticipates that several hundred or thousand product references could be subject to these recipe change requests, including fried and breaded products, margarine, sauces, pasta, and canned foods. Immediate recipe change indications are required for the addition of allergenic products or if the packaging contains claims that are no longer true.
