Nuts in Italy, how to enhance them and defend them from imports

The Italian nut supply chains gathered around a working table at the recent edition of Macfrut 2023. An opportunity to take stock of a sector that has significant numbers and growing potential, especially in some territories, as well as an increase in consumer preferences, thanks to the recognized beneficial properties associated with the consumption of the products. In Italy, the cultivation of walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, chestnuts, pistachios and locust beans covers an area of about 180,000 hectares. The average production in recent years amounts to about 220 thousand tons but the quantities harvested fluctuate strongly due to the impact of the climate on production yields.
