Oilseeds harvest in the EU-27 should increase slightly

The EU Commission estimates the production of oil countries in 2020 at 29 million tons, which is almost three percent above the previous year's level. The long-term mean is still missed by around four percent. The harvest plus for sunflower seeds is particularly strong. This is based both on an area expansion of two percent and an increase in yield of six percent compared to the previous year. Therefore, with 10.8 million tons, almost eight percent more sunflower seeds are likely to be harvested from the fields, thus reaching a record level. The strong increase in harvest in sunflower cultivation is based on the favorable sowing conditions and land redesignations. In terms of volume, sunflower seeds are the second most important oilseed in the EU-27. In 2020, as in previous years, rapeseed will account for the largest share of production.
