Onion Day 2026: "Onions in 2026: full sail ahead"

On Thursday, August 27, the Onion Innovation and Knowledge Center is organizing the annual International Onion Day at Proefboerderij Rusthoeve in Colijnsplaat. With the largest onion innovation field in the Netherlands, and possibly even worldwide, the event is entirely focused on the future of onion cultivation. The theme this year, “Onions in 2026: full steam ahead,” highlights the major challenges facing the sector. The phasing out of crop protection products, stricter water quality requirements, and increasing problems with insects and fungi call for maximum effort and innovation. From breeding to processing During Onion Day, the entire chain comes together: from breeding to processing. Visitors will gain insight into current topics such as thrips, onion and bean flies, fusarium, downy mildew, and weed control.
