A total of 104 people across 14 states have been infected by a bacterial outbreak linked to yellow onions used in McDonald's Quarter Pounders, with 34 hospitalizations and one death. Health officials have traced the outbreak back to these onions, despite the strain found in the samples not matching the one causing the illnesses. Taylor Farms, the supplier, has issued a voluntary recall, and McDonald's has stopped sourcing onions from the facility and related farm. The fast-food chain is investing $100 million to recover from the outbreak and support affected franchises.
