Is the Polish farmer truly last in line? Is imported carrot from Russia to be more important than the one from a Polish field? – questions the Grassroots Nationwide Farmers' Protest (OOPR). The group, which unites independent, non-partisan strike committees from all over Poland, in its latest market assessment points out that "we increasingly hear how Polish food is being advertised", praises the "Polish product" sign, and appeals for support of our farmers. Only – in their opinion – the reality looks completely different. "Farmers are leaving carrots in the fields because, with the current harvesting costs and recent reports of a possible tax on self-harvesting, it simply does not pay to dig them up or give them to those in need. The costs of labor, fuel, energy, and administrative requirements are so high that many producers simply cannot afford to gather their own crop.
