The Office of Agricultural Economics in Surat Thani, Thailand, has announced preliminary data for fruit production in the southern region for 2022, covering 14 provinces and an area of 1,108,655 rai. The total yield is estimated at 574,026 tons, spread across durian, mangosteen, rambutan, and longkong. However, production has seen a significant decrease from 2021 due to rainfall patterns affecting flowering. A total of 931,688 rai is dedicated to the fruiting area, with durian and mangosteen seeing increases, while longkong and rambutan volumes have dropped as farmers shift to durian planting. The production schedule and management guidelines for these fruits, including quality and quantitative management, are being developed to address market demands and monitor production capacity, considering the impact of the La Niña phenomenon on fruit production.
