The Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development has launched new state-of-the-art regional slaughterhouses in Rabat-Salé-Skhirat-Temara, with an investment of 267 million dirham. These facilities, boasting a production capacity of 30 thousand tons per year, are designed to enhance health safety standards and ensure traceability of livestock, aiming to improve the quality of meat products in the national market. Despite the advancements, red meat merchants express concerns over potential increases in transportation costs and meat prices due to the relocation of slaughterhouses to the outskirts. Nonetheless, consumer rights organizations in Morocco have welcomed the initiative, emphasizing its importance in modernizing the sector and addressing previous issues related to disorganization and safety.
