The Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan is taking steps to increase food security by increasing the cultivation and production of socially significant food products. In 2022, the country plans to sow cotton seeds and oilseeds on a larger scale than previous years, with the goal of producing a total of 476 thousand tons of oil and fat products, including cottonseed oil and vegetable oil. Despite these efforts, the country still falls short of meeting its population's demand for vegetable oil. To make up for the shortfall, the government has abolished value added tax on certain oils and has implemented measures to increase oilseed yields and create stocks of products, leading to a decrease in imports.
