Organic horticulture 'De Waog' in Neer, Limburg, is expanding its storage capacity to provide year-round organic sweet potatoes. The expansion will increase storage capacity to 500 tons and allow for cooling in the summer, catering to the demand from organic wholesalers. The company has been experimenting with sweet potatoes since 2014 and has found a supplier of quality planting material in Portugal. The sweet potato market in the Netherlands is growing, with about 235 hectares cultivated, primarily for the processing industry. The cost of labor makes the cultivation expensive, but with the correct marketing and sales in place, growers can achieve fair prices for their product. This season, 'De Waog' aims to harvest 400 to 500 tons from its 10 hectares.
