The number of milk producers in Austria has decreased threefold, from 82,000 in 2010 to 25,000 in 2020, due to unification into cooperatives. Despite this, milk production and average yield per enterprise have increased. In 2020, Austria produced 3.9 million tons of milk, of which 3.1 million tons were sold domestically. The country exported dairy products worth 1.3 billion Austrian euros in 2020, with cheese being the primary export. Germany was the main importer of Austrian dairy products.
