A collaborative project between Pakistan's Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) and the South Korean Program for International Agriculture (KOPIA) is aiming to introduce aeroponics technology for seed potato production in Pakistan. The initiative, announced at a recent briefing and already showing results at the PARC-National Agricultural Research Center in Islamabad, aims to decrease reliance on imported seed potatoes and boost local production. The potato is a crucial cash crop in Pakistan, with significant import costs of seed potatoes. The project also highlights the importance of involving the private sector in seed production and stresses the need for maintaining soil fertility. The goal is to produce 150,000 tons of high-quality seed potatoes within five years, which could potentially satisfy over 30% of the country's seed potato needs.
