A collaborative effort between Pakistan and the Republic of Korea aimss to improve seed potato production in Pakistan using Aeroponics technology, with the second harvest ready at the PARC-National Agricultural Research Center in Islamabad. The project, a partnership between PARC and KOPIA, targets higher productivity, reduced post-harvest losses, and increased farm-level processing, with the potential to significantly cut Pakistan's import bill for potato seed. Potato is a crucial cash crop in Pakistan, with 313,000 hectares cultivated in 2022. The initiative also underscores the importance of agricultural sector growth and the need to reduce reliance on imported potato seed. Plans are underway to expand greenhouse facilities at NARC to produce large numbers of first-generation seed potato tubers, with the goal of producing 150,000 tons of high-quality fourth-generation seeds within five years.
