The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a major consumer of Vietnamese pangasius, with Vietnam being the largest supplier, holding 40-50% of the market share. Despite the absence of the CEPA Trade Agreement, pangasius exports to the UAE have grown significantly, with May 2024 export turnover reaching over 2 million USD, a 40% increase from the previous year. Cumulative exports in the first five months totaled over 11 million USD, up 47%. The primary export, frozen pangasius fillets, saw a 22% increase in volume and a 61% increase in value. The UAE's high seafood consumption and competitive economy make it a key trading partner for Vietnam, and the potential signing of the CEPA could further enhance trade relations. VASEP recommends that Vietnamese businesses adopt advanced technologies and efficient management to boost competitiveness.
