Papaya/Cepea: Hawaiian prices fall in ES, in Bahia, Formosa appreciates

Hawaii papaya prices fell this week (February 24-28) in the main producing markets. According to collaborators from Hortifrúti/Cepea, in the North of Espírito Santo, Hawaii 12-18 was traded at R$2.50/kg, a 24% drop compared to the previous week. The devaluation of the variety is a reflection of the lower demand for the fruit at the end of the month, in addition to cases related to the lower quality of the fruit. It is worth noting that, in the Espírito Santo market, specific increases in supply were recorded, due to the high temperatures in the region. However, the outlook is for restricted volumes of Hawaii for the following weeks. As for Formosa, in the South of Bahia, the variety was traded at R$3.37/kg, an increase of 4% in the same comparison. In the case of the South of Bahia market, the increase in prices for another week is due to the lower supply of Formosa in the fields, which has remained restricted since the beginning of February.
