The Paraguayan pork sector has seen a significant decrease in exports in the first half of 2022, with a 65% drop in volume compared to the same period in 2021. The total export volume was 935 tons, the lowest since 2011 when 842 tons were recorded. The revenue reduction was 62%, with the total volume of shipments bringing in US$ 1.7 million compared to US$ 4.7 million in 2021. The sector primarily exported pork to Uruguay, accounting for 80% of exports, followed by Georgia and Armenia. The decrease in exports is attributed to the war between Russia and Ukraine, China's production of pork, and the oversupply in the market due to competitive pricing from other countries like the United States and Brazil.
