The European Union will produce more pear fruit, so it will buy less

Growing pears in Poland has been gaining popularity in recent years. Although we primarily associate Belgium and the Netherlands with the genre, China is the undivided world leader in production. Global production of pears in 2022/23 is forecast to fall by 647,000 tonnes to 23.9 million tonnes as China suffers significant spring frost losses as with apples. The "pear" leader will produce almost 18 million tons of fruit this year. The government encourages farmers to grow grain. So as with the apple trees, the orchards are cleared. As for the EU, production will increase by 240,000 tonnes to 2.1 million tonnes due to good conditions in the Benelux and partial recovery of production in Italy after last year's devastating frost.
