Each December 5th, World Soil Day is celebrated, an event that aims to highlight the importance of this resource for food security and sustainability. In Peru, this day takes on special relevance in the face of the challenges that agricultural soils face, particularly in the northern coast, the eastern Andes, and the high jungle, areas that, according to the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru (Senamhi), present the highest risk of water erosion in the country. Given this reality, the adoption of sustainable practices and soil management techniques becomes essential to protect agricultural productivity and resilience against extreme weather events. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), erosion affects a total of 127,945,790 hectares of soil in Peru, categorized according to its intensity, from very light to severe.
