For the first time in the 2022/23 season, Peru is projected to surpass Chile as the leading exporter of grapes, with an expected production of 585,000 tons compared to Chile's 555,000 tons, as per the USDA. Chile's production is predicted to decline for the eighth time in ten years, while Peru's has remained stable since at least 2001/02. The US is the primary market for both countries, with Chile's market share dropping from 57 to 41 percent since 2017/18 as Peru's share increases from 19 to 31 percent. The export periods for the two countries are largely complementary, with Peru dominating from November to February and Chile from February to May.
