International Chocolate Day, celebrated on September 13, was established in France in 1995 to honor Roald Dahl and coincides with Milton S. Hershey's birthday. Originating from Mesoamerican civilizations, chocolate has become a global delicacy with significant contributions from countries like Switzerland, Belgium, France, and Italy. Peru, a major cocoa producer with 177 thousand tons in 2023, is gaining international acclaim for its high-quality chocolate, often enhanced with local ingredients such as dehydrated fruits and maras salt. Peruvian chocolate exports reached US$ 73 million between January and October 2023, with the United States being the largest buyer. Leading Peruvian chocolate brands include Machu Picchu Foods and Nestlé Perú.
