Taiwanese police are implementing measures to prevent poaching of land crabs in Taijiang National Park in order to protect the breeding population, as Cardisoma carnifex, the largest land crab in Taiwan, enters its breeding season. Female land crabs carry their eggs to the beach after sunset to lay them in water, which exposes them to various dangers such as traffic accidents or being caught and cooked by individuals. Violators of the National Park Law can face fines or imprisonment depending on the severity of their actions.
