An investigation by the BBC has revealed that passata, marketed as Italian, is actually containing Chinese product in English supermarkets, due to unapproved analysis methods. Marco Serafini, president of Anicav, is working with an experimental station in Parma to develop a methodology to ensure the product can be grown in Italy. Anicav is also advocating to extend the decree that prohibits passata from being made from concentrate to a European level, to protect and promote Italian products and farmers.
