The Ponta Grossa region in Paraná is poised to become the state's top barley producer, surpassing Guarapuava, which led production last year. This shift is marked by Ponta Grossa's early barley sowing and a projected 10% increase in cultivation area, supported by the establishment of Maltaria Campos Gerais, Latin America's largest malt production facility, with a R$1.6 billion investment from local cooperatives for an annual production of 240 thousand tons of malt. Meanwhile, Guarapuava faces a 40% reduction in its barley cultivation area. Overall, Paraná is experiencing a 16% decrease in barley cultivation area across various production centers.
