Data from Embrapa Suínos e Aves shows a decrease in the cost of production for live pigs in the South region in January, but the sale price was still lower than the production costs. The average sale price was R$5.94, down 2% from the previous month and up 2.2% from January of the previous year. The cost of creation fell to R$6.96, down 12.5% from the previous month and 6.7% from January of the previous year. However, pig farmers still sold live pigs for an amount almost 14.7% lower than the cost of raising barley, indicating continued losses for producers.
