The Port of Santos in Brazil reported a record movement of 15.6 million tons in December 2023, marking a 29.1% increase from the same period in 2022. This contributed to an annual record of 173.3 million tons, a 6.7% increase from 2022. The record was driven by a bumper harvest of cereals and sugar cane, and a recovery in container movement. Bulk cargo, especially soybeans and sugar, saw a significant increase, while container movement matched the highest levels seen in the past three years. The port's growth capacity and effective planning were highlighted by the Port Authority president, Anderson Pomini.
