Prices for Dutch cheeses rose by more than 26% and continue to rise

The decline in milk production in the main European milk-producing countries Germany, the Netherlands and France has affected the production and therefore the world trade of Dutch cheeses, according to the Dutch portal Nieuwe Oogst on May 24. Dutch cheese prices rose by an average of 26.3% in February compared to the same month in 2021. Where prices have risen, global trade in Gouda, Edam and Maasdam fell 9.7% in February. In particular, Gouda production fell sharply by 13.4% in February compared to February 2021. Edam production decreased by 3.4%, Maasdam lost the least - 0.4%. Exports of Dutch cheeses are mainly declining from the Netherlands. The volume decreased by 6134 tons (about 15%) to 35,731 tons. From Germany, the world's second largest producer of Dutch cheeses, exports fell by 2,927 tons to 25,077 tons, a decrease of 10%.
