Prices for milk on the global market are rising sharply.

Prices have risen by 15% in the last three auctions on the Global Dairy Trade (GDT) world dairy platform. The GDT index increased by 6.7% on Tuesday – its highest increase since March 2021. For milk producers and dairy companies, the results of the GDT auction for 2026 are an encouraging sign after months of pressure to reduce prices. Skim milk powder and mozzarella were the leaders in price increases at 10.6%, followed by butter (8.8%) and whey powder (6.4%). Whole milk powder and anhydrous milk fat increased by 5.3% and 5%, respectively, and their weighted volume contributed significantly to the surprising rise in the GDT index. Cheddar became 3.8% more expensive, and lactose increased by 1.5%. The price increase is likely to contribute to improved forecasts for farm milk prices and indicates that latent global demand can quickly recover under difficult conditions.
